Making Friends with your Sewing Machine:

Intended for the novice sewer who has recently acquired a new or used sewing machine, this class will help familiarize students with the basics of using their sewing machine. Students must bring all of the following with them to class: sewing machine and all its cords and attachments, sewing machine instruction manual, an extension cord, scissors, pen and note paper. Survival Sewing for Men and Women:

The basics of hand sewing and mending. Learn how to replace both flat and shank buttons, mend hems and repair split seams. Class fee: $22. Offered Jan 25 from 1:30-4:30 pm.

The Decorator Sewing Series:

This series is designed to teach special techniques used for decorator sewing. Students who take these classes must have a working knowledge of using a sewing machine to sew straight lines (the class, Making Friends with Your Sewing Machine is a recommended prerequisite for students with no sewing experience). Each class focuses on teaching one specific technique. The students will use that technique to make an individual class project that they may keep. The class fee includes the materials required to make the project for that class. Supplies to be provided by the student are specified in each class description. NOTE: A limited number of sewing machines are available to rent during class for a $10 fee. These must be reserved in advance.

Decorator Sewing 101--Jewelry Bag with Exposed Zipper:

Students will learn to install an exposed zipper. Class project: Roll-up jewelry bag. Students must bring with them sewing machine and all its cords and attachments, sewing machine instruction manual, an extension cord, sharp scissors, pen and note paper. Class fee of $22 includes materials needed to make class project. Offered Feb 1 from 1:30-4:30 pm.

Decorator Sewing 102--Cosmetics Bag with Sewn-In Zipper:

Students will learn to install an exposed zipper into a seam. Class project: Cosmetics bag. Students must bring with them sewing machine and all its cords and attachments, sewing machine instruction manual, an extension cord, sharp scissors, pen and note paper. Class fee of $22 includes materials to make class project. Offered Feb 15 from 1:30-4:30 pm.

Decorator Sewing 103--The Basic Pillow:

Students will learn to make three basic types of knife-edge pillows. Class project: 16" throw pillow. Students must bring with them sewing machine and all its cords and attachments, sewing machine instruction manual, an extension cord, sharp scissors, pen and note paper, ruler or straight edge. Class fee of $22 includes materials to make class project. Offered Feb 26 from 1:30-4:30 pm.

Decorator Sewing 104-Neck roll pillow:

Students will learn to sew inset circles, which is the standard technique used to make neck roll pillows and a number of other projects. Decorator Sewing 101 or a working knowledge of sewing exposed zippers is a prerequisite for this class. Class project: Small neck roll pillow. Students must bring with them sewing machine and all its cords and attachments, sewing machine instruction manual, an extension cord, sharp scissors, pen and note paper. Class fee of $22 includes materials to make class project. Offered Mar 1 from 1:30-4:30 pm.

Decorator Sewing 105--Decorator Pillow with Single Welt Cording:

Students will learn to make and apply their own decorative cording. Decorator Sewing 103 or a working knowledge of sewing knife-edge pillows with installed zippers is a prerequisite for this class. Class project: 18" corded pillow with zipper closure. Students must bring with them sewing machine and all its cords and attachments, sewing machine instruction manual, an extension cord, sharp scissors, pen and note paper. Class fee of $30 includes materials to make class project. Offered Mar 15 from 1:30-4:30 pm.

Decorator Sewing 106-- Decorator Pillow with Square Mitered Corners:

Students will learn to make square mitered corners on pillows, quilts, etc. Class project: Small decorator pillow. Students must bring with them sewing machine and all its cords and attachments, sewing machine instruction manual, an extension cord, sharp scissors, pen and note paper, ruler with ¼" measurement. Class fee of $22 includes materials to make class project. Offered Mar 29 from 1:30-4:30 pm.

Decorator Sewing 107-- Envelope Flap Mug Mat with Non-Square Mitered Corners:

Students will learn to make non-square mitered corners on pillows, window treatments, purse flaps, etc. Class project: Envelope-flap mug mat. Students must bring with them sewing machine and all its cords and attachments, sewing machine instruction manual, an extension cord, sharp scissors, pen and note paper, ruler with ¼" measurement. Class fee of $22 includes materials to make class project. Offered Mar 12 from 1:30-4:30 pm.

Decorator Sewing 108--Neck Warmer with Curved Seams:

Students will learn to sew, press and turn curved edge seams. Class project: Neck warmer. Students must bring with them sewing machine and all its cords and attachments, sewing machine instruction manual, an extension cord, sharp scissors, pen and note paper. Class fee of $22 includes materials to make class project. Offered Mar 26 from 1:30-4:30 pm.

Decorator Sewing 109--Rod Pocket Valances:

Students will learn to make a basic rod pocket on a valance. Class project: 36" wide valance. Students must bring with them sewing machine and all its cords and attachments, sewing machine instruction manual, an extension cord, sharp scissors, pen and note paper, ruler. Class fee of $44 includes materials to make class project. Offered Apr 12 from 1:30-4:30 pm.

Decorator Sewing 110--Tassels:

Students will learn to make and apply a basic tassel. Class project: Bell pull with tassel end. Students must bring with them sewing machine and all its cords and attachments, sewing machine instruction manual, an extension cord, sharp scissors, pen and note paper. Decorator Sewing 111--Small Tote Bag with Turkish Corners:

Students will learn to make Turkish corners for use on purses, pillows and cushions. Class project: Small tote bag. Students must bring with them sewing machine and all its cords and attachments, sewing machine instruction manual, an extension cord, sharp scissors, pen and note paper. Students will learn to sew boxed edges for use on purses, pillows and cushions. Class project: Small tote bag. Students will learn to sew banded edges for use on decorator pillows and cushions. Class project: Small table runner. Students must bring with them sewing machine and all its cords and attachments, sewing machine instruction manual, an extension cord, sharp scissors, pen and note paper. Class fee of $22 includes materials to make class project. Offered May 3 from 1:30-4:30 pm.
